Sony Panasonic Unveil 4K OLED TVs at CES 2013
Three-D TVs did not create much of an impact in the market since it was introduced in last year’s CES, so electronics companies are banking on what they hope would be the next big thing in home entertainment: Ultra HD TVs.
Major companies like Sony and Panasonic have unveiled their take on the 4K OLED in this year’s CES. These units feature an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel with 3,840 x 2,160 resolution and 8.29 million pixels. In layman’s terms, these screens are twice as crisp compare to your basic HDTVs, providing close-to-real-life images.
Sony draws first blood as it unveiled during CES 2013 the latest additions to its 4K OLED line, which was first launched last September with a 84-inch Bravia that was just as expensive as a sedan. The company announces the 65- and 55-inch versions (pictured), both with Triluminous display containing Sony’s X-Reality PRO and Motionflow XR960 technology, WiFi connectivity, and NFC one-touch screen mirroring. Sony will also launch a range of “mastered in 4K” blu-ray discs.
In the case of Panasonic, their 4K OLED TV measures 56 inches with just half-an-inch thickness, which the company brags as the “world’s largest OLED panel produced through the ‘RGB all-printing method’.”
The prices from both companies remain a mystery, although Sony hinted of a springtime launch.
